Eligibility Requirements For TRICARE Beneficiaries

1.0  POLICY
1.1  The Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) will indicate the dates eligibility for individuals who are determined by the applicable Uniformed Service as meeting the TRICARE eligibility requirements under 32 CFR 199.3. The DEERS record will indicate the dates of eligibility. Except for newborns, the DEERS record must will indicate the dates eligible for TRICARE. See paragraph 2.0 for exceptions.
1.2  The contractor shall consider the newborn eligible if the newborn beneficiary’s date of birth is within 365 calendar days of the contractor’s eligibility query to DEERS.
1.3  Same-sex spouses and their family members of Uniformed Service members are eligible for TRICARE. The effective date of coverage is June 26, 2013, or the date of eligibility as reflected in DEERS, whichever is later.
2.0  Exception
When the newborn or adoptee child of an eligible Uniformed Service sponsor is not registered in DEERS, the contractor shall consider them eligible for TRICARE if the newborn’s date of birth, or the adoptee’s date of adoption, is within 90 days (120 days if overseas) of the contractor’s eligibility query. See Section 3.1.
