Preconception And Prenatal Carrier Screening Tests

1.0  DESCRIPTION
Preconception and prenatal carrier screenings aide in identifying which individuals and families are at-risk for having children with genetic conditions that are generally associated with a high level of morbidity and a shortened life expectancy. Results of preconception and prenatal carrier tests may influence the medical management of family planning or pregnancy.
2.0  POLICY
2.1  Effective December 27, 2021, the following preconception and prenatal carrier screening tests may be cost-shared:
•  Cystic Fibrosis;
•  Spinal Muscular Atrophy;
•  Fragile X Syndrome;
•  Tay-Sachs Disease;
•  Hemoglobinopathies; and
•  Conditions linked with Ashkenazi Jewish descent.
2.2  Benefits are limited to one test per condition per lifetime.
