Eligibility Requirements For TRICARE Beneficiaries

1.0  POLICY
1.1  The Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) will show individuals who are determined by the applicable Uniformed Services as meeting the TRICARE eligibility requirements under 32 CFR 199.3 as eligible. The DEERS record will indicate the dates of eligibility for TRICARE. See paragraph 2.0 for exceptions.
1.2  Same-sex spouses and their family members of Uniformed Services members are eligible for TRICARE. The effective date of coverage is June 26, 2013, or the date of eligibility as reflected in DEERS, whichever is later.
2.0  Exception
When the newborn or adoptee child of an eligible Uniformed Services sponsor is not registered in DEERS, the contractor shall consider them eligible for TRICARE for the first 90 days (120 days if overseas) from the newborn’s date of birth, or the adoptee’s date of adoption. See Section 3.1.
