The new codes are valid for claims processing for claims submitted on or after January 1, 2006. 2.0 DESCRIPTIONNursing facilities (formerly called Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs), Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs), or Long-term Care Facilities (LCFs)) are places of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant Activity of Daily Living (ADL) deficiencies. Residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical disabilities. Adults 18 or older can stay in a skilled nursing facility to receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. 3.0 POLICYSNF visits are covered when provided by an authorized provider for the diagnosis or treatment of a specific illness or condition or set of symptoms. - END -
